Thai Massage

Massage from Thailand?

Well, not exactly. You can get Thai Massage anywhere!

Thai is an ancient technique thought to be utilized by Buddhist monks. This massage is very different from any massage you might have had before though, as it does not use oils, it does not require you to undress, and it is not performed in a dim room. Thai is traditionally performed on a padded mat on the floor where your therapist will lead you through gentle stretches, muscle compression, along with other forms of pulling and rocking techniques. This modality can be especially helpful for those with arthritis or those who are stiff from increased exercised.

Thai massage employs a very unique way of accessing the energy field by getting you and your therapist to work together to accomplish the stretches. It has been known to allow blockages to flow more freely while correcting imbalances in the client's flow of energy. It is less of the personal touch that you get with different modalities and more of building trust not only with your therapist, but also with yourself.

There are a certain number of people that should not consider Thai massage. People with osteoporosis, those who have had a recent surgery, or those that experience herniated disks should not receive Thai massage as it can worsen those issues. However for those that do not have those contraindications you may experience lessened headaches, reduced muscle pain, increased flexibility, relief of back pain, lymphatic drainage, and many other potential benefits. The pros of Thai massage greatly reflect the benefits of doing regular yoga as Thai is commonly called "Thai Yoga Massage." It is a form of guided yoga along with the added benefits of massage.

If you're considering Thai massage you should come to your appointment wearing loose fitting athletic wear. Anything that allows you to move and stretch freely! You should also be sure to find a therapist that is certified in Thai massage, otherwise they have the potential of causing more harm than good. Even though your therapist will be pushing and pulling your body in ways that you might not be able to do yourself it should not be painful, so if you experience any discomfort during your session inform your therapist immediately!

Thai massage is not only relaxing and extremely helpful, but it's also pretty fun! This is hands-down my favorite modality because it's all the fun of yoga with all the health benefits of massage. Definitely be sure to give this a try! It just so happens that we have a therapist certified in Thai massage and a mat ready for you to use!
